John Frusciante Equipment Guide. Please note that this is just a quick basic guide for beginners. In reality, a lot of factors go into replicating someone's sound, and it's usually nearly impossible to achieve. He bought the guitar just prior to recording the album, and it apparently had really bad frets. He took the guitar to a local guitar shop to replace them with new ones, but was unsatisfied with the result and asked for a complete removal of frets John acquired this guitar sometime prior to Stadium Arcadium, and allegedly used it on that album to record Readymade, and some overdubs on Make You Feel Better. He also picked it up occasionally live to play Fortune Faded – a song which was likely originally recorded on his 1961 SG/Les Paul Custom.

Curtains is the eighth solo album by John Frusciante, released on February 1, 2005 on Record Collection. The album is primarily an acoustic album, in contrast to his previous collaboration with Josh Klinghoffer, A Sphere in the Heart of Silence, which was mostly electronic. According to Frusciante, the album was recorded in his living room: "It was just me sitting on a pillow, on my living room floor, with my back leaning against the couch.

John began creating and engineering his own electronic music in 2007. Later he had stated that he felt comfortable with how R&B and hip-hop music integrated into his work, as he progressed in enhancing his skills with electronic instruments and techniques. The title track of the album was among the most difficult for RHCP to complete. Frusciante felt compelled to write an appropriate guitar ensemble that would appropriately complement the poignant lyrical content but encountered difficulty. Frusciante completed the final riff two days before recording, after drawing inspiration from The Cure's soundtrack song to "Carnage Visors.

Red Hot On The Empyrean. Photo by Neil Zlozower. Frusciante recently completed his latest solo disc, The Empyrean – a conceptual album on which he used an assortment of vintage gear. Although he does not consider himself a collector, over the years Frusciante has assembled an impressive arsenal of instruments, favoring pre-CBS Strats as his guitars of choice for use both onstage and in the studio. For years, until I rejoined my band when I was 28, all I had really done as a solo artist was make recordings at home on a four-track. That’s how I made my first three solo records. So when I started recording in a studio, my only experience recording in a studio was with Rick Rubin as producer.

However, the track does pick up with a trademark wa-wa guitar solo, slowed down and taking centre stage, which blooms into a refrain with gorgeous instrumentation. However, some time after the release of the album Frusciante released a bonus track for free over the internet, and even if you’re not going to listen to this album, or even if you’ve never listened to anything he’s done, download this song! ‘Here, Air’ is a short and subtle masterpiece. I mentioned earlier that the fact that this is a concept album put me off. The concept is so loose and unimportant it barely notices, and instead of being the ‘spiritual journey’ Frusciante intended, the album comes across more as an ego trip than anything else. Not content with just writing songs, as he did with his prior fantastic albums like ‘Curtains’ and ‘The Will to Death’, he had to write an epic, multi-dimensional ‘journey’.

Recut by John Frusciante and Bernie Grundman from the original analog tapes. This double disc LP includes a download card of the album plus bonus tracks in hi-resolution. Official release date is March 29th.

John Anthony Frusciante (born in New York on March 5th 1970) though probably best known for his time as guitarist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, is a respected, acclaimed and prolific solo artist in his own right. Joining the Chili Peppers in 1988 after the death of Hillel Slovak, the band's original guitarist, Frusciante was featured on both Mother's Milk and Blood Sugar Sex Magik. However, John's rise was short lived.
