Uncle John's Band" is a song by the Grateful Dead that first appeared in their concert setlists in late 1969. The band recorded it for their 1970 album Workingman's Dead. Written by guitarist Jerry Garcia and lyricist Robert Hunter, "Uncle John's Band" presents the Dead in an acoustic and musically concise mode, with close harmony singing. The song, one of the band's most well-known, is one of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll

Uncle Walt's Band: Americana band founded in Spartanburg, South Carolina by Walter Hyatt, Champ Hood, and David Ball. They were among the most popular acoustic bands in Austin, Texas during the late 1970s and early 1980s, and were particularly noted for their intricate 3-part vocal harmonies as well as a sound that combined traditional country motifs with jazz, bluegrass, and Beatles-esque influences. From Spartanburg, South Carolina, Uncle Walt’s Band was an eclectic music trio that moved to Nashville in 1972. Shortly after that, Willis Alan Ramsey urged the group to move to Austin, which they did. After a failed attempt to record an album the band moved back to Spartanburg in 1974 and recorded their debut, Blame it on the Bossa Nova. Though they were gathering a devoted following, the band went on hiatus for a few years, reuniting in 1978 for a show in Austin. A second record was released in 1980, An American in Texas. A live album followed, Recorded Live from The Waterloo Icehouse.
