Produced by Brian Wilson, it was the first of three studio albums that the band would release in 1964. The album is the first not to feature rhythm guitarist David Marks, who departed from the band following disagreements with manager Murry Wilson.

We have a recreational barker and as soon as I put on the CD, she goes and quietly lies down. We thank you as do our neighbors. I bought them both at the same time, and have to say that this volume 2 has a much calmer effect on my Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier (5 years but still energetic) than the first CD. Both are slow, melodious piano melodies, but I can easily listen right along with this one. Bailey settles down right away. I popped in this album to a CD player. A few minutes later, I calmly told everyone to turn around and look at the dogs. They were all lying down and calmly enjoying each other's company.
