Spoons ‎– Static In Transmission. Label: Fontana North ‎– FNCD5574. I recently purchased the Nova Heart 30th anniversary CD EP release and rediscovered the Spoons. Their 1982 full length album Arias Symphonies in which Nova Heart was taken from remains in a special place in my record collection. I recently purchased their new 2011 Static & Transmission album after sampling a few tracks on line. I’m happy to report that the Spoons are back in full form complete with nice pop melodies layers with synth. Gord Deppe handles lead vocals on most of the tracks with bassist Sandy Horne stepping up to the plate to sing lead vocals on dreamy Escape with You

It was 30 years ago that I was transfixed by the “Nova Heart” video on my local Los Angeles video show, MV3, hosted by KROQ-FM DJ Richard Blade. I recently purchased the “Nova Heart” 30th anniversary CD EP release and rediscovered the Spoons. Their 1982 full length album Arias Symphonies in which “Nova Heart” was taken from remains in a special place in my record collection. I recently purchased their new 2011 Static & Transmission album after sampling a few tracks on line. I’m happy to report that the Spoons are back in full form complete with nice pop melodies layers with synth. Gord Deppe handles lead vocals on most of the tracks with bassist Sandy Horne stepping up to the plate to sing lead vocals on dreamy “Escape with You”. “You Light Up” has to be my favorite track off this and has a killer video to go with it. The slow numbers like “B Movie” fit in nicely with this release. I look forward to more releases by Spoons. “End of Story” is another nice number that will have you tapping your toes and nodding your head to the beat. “Closing Credits” sound just like it could be the music for closing credits to a nice film with its hypnotic piano melody. Well done from an obscure 80’s synth band from the Great White North. Welcome back.
