I remember seeing the ad in the paper about Faith No More's last Philadelphia appearance (September, Electric Factory, 1997), but I didn’t know who they were, or why it was sold out. By chance in 1998, I was at a Flea Market and came across what is considered to be FNM's masterpiece, Angel Dust. By chance I got an offer from BMG Music to get eight free cds for the price of shipping. One of my choices was Who Cares A Lot" The Greatest Hits. For 13 years of age, it blew my mind. I had no idea FNM was so capable of making such astonishing, unheard of music. This compilation is without a doubt the perfect launching pad to get into the brilliant and severely underrated world of Faith No More.
Compiled in preparation for Faith No More's 2009 reunion tour, Rhino slapped together The Very Best Definitive Ultimate Greatest Hits Collection, yet another Faith No More greatest-hits collection that doesn't quite hit the mark. This time, the material is divvied between two discs: a disc of their 18 best tracks and a second disc of B-sides and rarities. For those newcomers looking for a loose chronological history of the group, with songs by the first vocalist Chuck Mosley and a spattering of covers (which are usually great), the Platinum Collection, This Is It: The Best of Faith No More, and Who Cares a Lot: Greatest Hits provide a slightly better overview at a more affordable price.
Faith No More are an alternative metal act, widely revered as one of the most unique-sounding bands in music history. The group was born in 1979 in San Francisco, under the name Sharp Young Men. In 1981, they changed their name to Faith No Man. After two-fifths of the band (including lead singer Mike The Man Morris) left, the remaining members (bassist Billy Gould, drummer Mike Bordin and keyboardist Roddy Bottum) kept going with another new name: Faith No More . The Very Best Definitive Ultimate Greatest Hits Collection. Who Cares a Lot? 1998.
