Just after Against the Grain hit and got significant airplay, Polydor released this compilation of material from Gallagher's first two albums. As those two discs were relatively unknown in the . this was actually a good move for both Gallagher and the label, and the songs "Crest of a Wave" and "I Fall Apart" both got some airplay and raised interest in the rest of Gallagher's catalog.
Rory Gallagher is the first solo album by Irish blues rock musician Rory Gallagher, released in 1971. It marked his departure from Taste. He decided on two Belfast musicians; drummer Wilgar Campbell, and bass guitarist Gerry McAvoy to be the core of his new power trio band.

BBC Sessions is a blues rock album by Rory Gallagher, released in 1999. The album was compiled from live recordings made at the BBC by Gallagher's brother Donal, and released posthumously. As a boy, he refused to go outside if it meant missing the Saturday Club and rushing home for this four o'clock programme which dedicated half an hour to a different group each week. The young Gallagher considered these broadcasts a test to see if bands could demonstrate the same musicisianship in a spontaneous performance as in the studio. Starting with his first band Taste, Gallagher had an excellent relation with Mike Raven and John Peel at BBC radio.
