Robert Schumann Robert Schumann, sometimes given as Robert Alexander Schumann, (8 June 1810 ? 29 July 1856) was a German composer, aesthete and influential music critic. He is one of the most famous Romantic composers of the 19th century. He had hoped to pursue a career as a virtuoso pianist, having been assured by his teacher Friedrich Wieck that he could become the finest pianist in Europe after only a few years of study with him.
The Fantasie in C major, Op. 17, was written by Robert Schumann in 1836. It was revised prior to publication in 1839, when it was dedicated to Franz Liszt. It is generally described as one of Schumann's greatest works for solo piano, and is one of the central works of the early Romantic period. It is often called by the Italian version, Fantasia; the word "Fantasie" is the German spelling. The Fantasie is in loose sonata form.
Robert Schumann was born on 8 June 1810 in Zwickau, Saxony. He was the fifth and the last child of his parents. By the year 1830, Schumann was back in Leipzig and started taking piano lessons from the famous music teacher Frederich Wieck, who assured him that after a few years’ of study, he would be a successful concert pianist. During his studies with Wieck, Schumann permanently injured his right hand.
Schumann's Album for the Young can be labelled as program music, as it musically depicts various images (Soldiers' March, The Happy Farmer, The Poor Orphan) or evokes moods and emotions (First Sorrow, Remembrance, Wintertime). Details about Schumann : Album for the Young, Op.
Robert Schumann's published compositions were written exclusively for the piano until 1840; he later composed works for piano and orchestra; many Lieder (songs for voice and piano); four symphonies; an opera; and other orchestral, choral, and chamber works. Robert Schumann was born in Zwickau, Saxony, Germany, the fifth and last child of Johanna Christiane (née Schnabel) and August Schumann.
Schumann's entire being was music, informed by dream and fantasy. He was music's quintessential Romantic, always ardent, always striving for the ideal. Learn about his passionately creative but troubled life, and hear some of his best music. Robert Schumann was a German composer and critic born in Zwickau on June 8, 1810. A quirky, problematic genius, he wrote some of the greatest music of the Romantic era, and also some of the weakest.
