The Jazz Scene, as this package was called, was released in the week before Christmas 1949 and is a very important album in the history of jazz. They confirmed that material for this project had been in preparation for the last three years by Norman Granz. Granz having started the Jazz at the Philharmonic concert series in 1944 had become a record producer and was heading up Mercury’s jazz division as well as issuing records under his own label Clef, through Mercury.

As the jazz community bids farewell to some revered elders who passed away in 2018 (Cecil Taylor, Randy Weston, Nancy Wilson, Bob Dorough, Sonny Fortune, Hugh Masekela), some intriguing new faces are emerging on the scene, bringing fresh visions and expanding the boundaries of the music in the process. Traces won two Independent Music Awards for Best Adult Contemporary Album and Best Latin Song ( Para Volar ), and established her as a Rising Star in both guitar and female vocal categories in the esteemed DownBeat Critics Poll. She also performs as a member of Ryan Keberle’s Catharsis and Fabian Almazan’s Rhizome and leads her expanded jazz-plus-strings octet, The Nectar Orchestra, which is showcased on her upcoming Sony Music Masterworks release Ambar, a new project that elevates Camila’s musical storytelling to another level.

The Jazz Album has been added to your Cart. The two jazz suites are peripheral Shostakovich, but great fun all the same. The Concertgebouw's resident jazzers would clearly give any professional combo a run for its money, especially in the lengthy Second Suite, assembled from film and theatre scores.
