Much Afraid is the second full-length studio album of Christian band Jars of Clay. It was released in 1997 by Essential Records. Much Afraid was highly anticipated after the success of the band's first album, but due to a noticeable stylistic shift, the album was not as well received. Despite debuting at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 chart (the group's eponymous debut had failed to reach the Top 40), it quickly slid down the chart, its sales failing to match those of its predecessor.

Jars of Clay come into their own on their second album, revealing their gift for melancholic folk pop that's laced with imagery more spiritual than scriptural. The baroque-flavored Frail bravely delves into human weakness, and Overjoyed is sweetened with Beatles-esque harmonies and guitar lines-both are so achingly fragile that they could dissolve at any moment. The band also adds a dash of rock ’n’ roll crunch to the single Crazy Times, sucking in listeners with sad, dreamy textures. Much Afraid Jars of Clay.

Jars of Clay is the first full-length studio album by Christian rock group Jars of Clay. It was released on October 24, 1995 by Essential Records. The album has been highly acclaimed, being one of few Christian albums of the mid-1990s to achieve platinum status. As the group's debut album, Jars of Clay introduced many internationally to the group and established the group due to their distinctive style.

Much Afraid is the second full-length studio album of Christian band Jars of Clay. All other tracks from that demo were recorded for the debut album Jars of Clay in 1995. Both songs were changed significantly, especially "Frail" which was previously an instrumental piece which now contained lyrics. Notably, these songs were two of the first songs written by Jars of Clay. The album features the multi-instrumental Greg Wells, who went on to produce OneRepublic, Katy Perry, Pink, and Rufus Wainwright, who plays drums and bass guitar on almost every song and co-wrote "Tea And Sympathy" and the single "Crazy Times".

Jars of Clay's second mainstream, adult alternative album, Much Afraid, finds the group refining the anthemic, folky neo-jangle that made its predecessor, Jars of Clay, a crossover hit. While Much Afraid lacks a single as catchy as "Flood," it is a solid, well-crafted collection of alternative folk-rock, highlighted by the single "Crazy Times.

Very well done album, in my opinion. Also I found the LP version which is technically on the "rare LP" list cause it was never repressed and out of print since 1997.
