We rank all of Judas Priest's studio albums, from their debut 'Rocka Rolla' to 2014's 'Redeemer of Souls. Although they started Birmingham, England, in 1969, the Judas Priest we've come to know and love took shape when lead guitarist . Downing needed a singer after the departure of Al Atkins, who had named the band. He found future "Metal God" Rob Halford in 1973 and, shortly before they recorded their debut, another lead guitarist named Glenn Tipton. Like most bands, it took them a while to break through, but once they did there was no turning back as they became one of the leading lights of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement of the early '80s.

Firepower (Judas Priest album). Cover art by Claudio Bergamin. Studio album by Judas Priest. Sad Wings of Destiny is the second studio album by the English heavy metal group Judas Priest, released in 1976. It is considered the album on which Judas Priest consolidated their sound and image, and songs from it such as "Victim of Changes" and "The Ripper" have since become live standards. I. he group were inspired in part by contemporary Birmingham band Black Sabbath.

Rocka Rolla is enjoyable enough, with its faint whiff of progressive hard rock and its warm, analogue tones, but it’s a patchy affair and never comes close to the grandeur and grit of the classics. Black Sabbath may have inadvertently invented heavy metal, but Judas Priest defined it with their second album. Grandiloquent, adventurous and epic as all hell, Sad Wing. icks off with Victim Of Changes – one of the greatest metal songs ever written, let’s face it – and then sustains its air of supreme confidence and power for the duration.

Well folks, JUDAS PRIEST’s Firepower did not fit in any of those categories. Not that lyrics don’t matter here, but from the onset this seemed like an album worth experiencing with loud speakers. News of a new Priest album started to circulate as early as April 2016, when Loudwire posted a photo showing Rob Halford, Glenn Tipton and Richie Faulkner in the studio. Almost two years later, Firepower is here, and it arguably has everything a Priest fan can dream of: soaring vocals, twin guitar harmonies, crispy heaviness and choruses that a nomadic tribe could sing.
