Opening Salt Rain is an invocation to the Hindu deity Lord Ganesh, remover of obstacles. In the Indian tradition, it's always a good idea to get Ganesh's blessings at the beginning of any new venture. Susheela Raman may toss in bass, drums, and other Western flourishes, but she also knows when to stick with the tried and true practices of her native culture. Raman also affords praise to other deities, namely the devis or goddesses Saraswati and Kamakshi, and lords Shiva and Rama.

Music for Crocodiles; is Sheela Raman's 3rd album. Her first, Salt Rain, was sensationally nominated for the finals of the Mercury Music Prize and has gone on to become a massive hit in France where TV advertisers have fallen in love with the sensuous grooves. He follows up, love Trap came out in 2003. Since her debut in 2001 she has been growing and learning as both a singer/songwriter but also as a performer.

In Australia she studied classical South Indian song and began giving performances. She then began working with Western forms including rock and soul, while continuing to study classical Indian music with Shruti Sadolikar. Her desire to mix Indian with Western music resulted in her first album, Salt Rain, in 2001, followed by Love Trap in 2003.
