The end nearly began for Silent Planet frontman Garrett Russell during the creation of the band’s upcoming third album, an explosive blast of metalcore that will leave your heart as battered as your eardrums. Following their underdog win at the 2017 APMAs on the strength of the California-based act’s second effort Everything Was Sound, the musician found himself plumbing the depths of depression as work began on the follow-up, When The End Began.
While new to the UK, SILENT PLANET have graced the States since 2009 and almost a decade’s worth of experience has inspired and honed their innovative approach to metalcore vocals. Through the absolute juggernaut of Northern Fires (Guernica), frontman Garrett Russell bursts into a perfectly-timed semi-rap, almost a battle cry, which on paper sounds laboured and desperate but fits seamlessly in practice. Audibly inspired by the harsh realities of the world in 2018, When The End Began is a dominating and genuine interpretation of where metalcore should be now, on the SILENT PLANET. These song are our way of giving back to so many of those who have given to us. On tour, we’ve met people isolated by bigotry, marred by addiction, scarred by loss – these songs are for them and anyone else grappling with these situations
