Rock & Roll is the fifth album by American psychedelic rock band Vanilla Fudge, released in September 1969. It peaked at No. 34 on the Billboard album charts in October of that year. The album was the band's last studio album prior to their initial break-up in the spring of 1970. Need Love" (Carmine Appice, Tim Bogert, Vince Martell, Mark Stein) - 4:57. Lord in the Country" (Stein) - 4:30. I Can't Make It Alone" (Gerry Goffin, Carole King) - 4:45.

Arranged By, Design – Vanilla Fudge. Engineer – Adrian Barber. Photography By – Jim Cummins (2). Producer – Adrian Barber. Vocals – Mark Stein (tracks: A2, A3, B1 to B3). Notes. Recorded at Atlantic Recording Studios, New York. Rock & Roll ‎(LP, Album, TH). ATCO Records. Rock & Roll ‎(LP, Album).

Vanilla Fudge took a more basic stance with Rock 'n' Roll, bringing in Aerosmith's first and the Velvet Underground's last producer, Adrian Barber, to replace Shadow Morton. Guitarist Vinnie Martell sings lead on "Need Love," and it is a quagmire of rock sounds, offset by Mark Stein's "Lord in the Country. The band then goes after a good but non-hit Carole King/Gerry Goffin number, "I Can't Make It Alone

Rock'n'roll" was the final album recorded by Vanilla Fudge during their creative days in the late 1960's and early 1970's. Further albums would be released in the name of Vanilla Fudge, but it is to their first incarnation we must look for their significance in the prog timeline. The band went out on something of a high with an album of largely original material.

Vanilla Fudge Rock & Roll (Atco Records 1969). Formed 1966 in Long Island, New York and initially called the Pigeons, Vanilla Fudge arrived at a time when rock musicians were exploring virgin frontiers to the point where weird and wild became the standard practice. But Vanilla Fudge’s philosophy and approach stemmed from an entirely different dimension altogether. Vanilla Fudge were dynamic singers and musicians, and their amazing chops really shine through on this album. Powered by bellowing vocals, flaming with intent, Need Love and Street Walking Woman sizzle and squawk to the beat of hard rocking hullabaloo. Grungy guitars grapple with pile-driving percussion, culminating in a tone that is ugly and distorted, but bleeding with integrity.

Appice went on to become an active session and touring musician, working with a variety of rock and hard rock artists. Vanilla Fudge reunited in 1984 for the poorly received Mystery album, and, over the course of the next two decades, Vanilla Fudge would regroup for tours. These reunions often had differing lineups, always anchored by Carmine Appice and usually Tim Bogert, although the latter opted out of an early-'90s incarnation
