Vanilla Fudge is an American rock band known predominantly for their extended rock arrangements of contemporary hit songs, most notably "You Keep Me Hangin' On". The band's original lineup-vocalist and organist Mark Stein, bassist and vocalist Tim Bogert, lead guitarist/vocalist Vince Martell, and drummer and vocalist Carmine Appice-recorded five albums during the years 1967–69, before disbanding in 1970.

In a debut consisting of covers, nobody could accuse Vanilla Fudge of bad taste in their repertoire; with stoned-out, slowed-down versions of such then-recent classics as "Ticket to Ride," "Eleanor Rigby," and "People Get Ready," they were setting the bar rather high for themselves. Even the one suspect choice - Sonny Bono's "Bang Bang" - turns out to be rivaled only by Mott the Hoople's version of "Laugh at Me" in putting Bono's songwriting in the kindest possible light

This compilation was released only in Italy, to celebrate VF's win at the '69 Venice Festival where they were the first rock band awarded the prestigious Golden Gondola Award. Songs include most of the R&R LP tracks, as well as The Beat Goes On, You Keep Me Hanging On, Bang Bang, Fur Elise/Moonlight Sonata Medley, and Some Velvet Morning.
