Burn the Priest moved away from the metal world for Legion: XX, instead tackling punk, hardcore, crossover and sludge tracks from bands like Bad Brains, Agnostic Front, Cro-Mags, . Our inauspicious beginnings somehow grew into something none of us had ever even imagined possible, let alone aspired to, however, this is the story of Burn the Priest, says guitarist Mark Morton. The songs we chose to cover on this album reflect that story. They are touchstones from that point in time
Burn the Priest is as unsubtle as its name implies, a nervy and volatile prototype of the e hybrid that Lamb of God would eventually preach. If Pantera had recorded Vulgar Display of Power for Relapse, it might've sounded something like Burn the Priest. Recorded in 1998 with Today Is the Day mastermind and go-to metal producer Steve Austin, it's a ragged statement of heavy music creativity that pits grunting and screaming death metal vocals against tracks that cut past the brashness, straight to the gristle of metal. Burn the Priest is just showing us where they got the gumption.

Burn the Priest is a stepping stone, that has paved the way for the groove metal genre. The musicianship is amazing for a first time record. Comparing this album to the rest it obviously shows the Burn the Priest knew exactly where they wanted to go with their music. Not quite what they are now - 50%. invaded, March 15th, 2007.
