Forgiveness Rock Record is the fourth studio album by Canadian indie rock musical collective Broken Social Scene, released by the Arts & Crafts record label on May 4, 2010. The critically acclaimed album, produced by John McEntire of the bands Tortoise and The Sea and Cake, features guest appearances by Leslie Feist, Emily Haines of Metric, Scott Kannberg from Pavement, Sebastien Grainger of Death from Above 1979, and Sam Prekop also of The Sea and Cake.

Forgiveness Rock Record's thematic bent is mature, and that sense of gravity is embedded into the music, too. Working with band hero, Tortoise/Sea and Cake drummer, and post-rock mastermind John McEntire for the first time, Broken Social Scene made sure to have their shit together. Considering the co-producer's experimental bona fides, it's surprising that this is the most song-based album the band has ever made- every track but one contains vocals, and a couple seem to be filled with more words than the entirety of You Forgot It In People.

In 2010, Broken Social Scene returned with an especially ambitious project. The album Forgiveness Rock Record was recorded in Toronto, New York, and Chicago, and included contributions from 28 different musicians, including members of Pavement and Death from Above 1979.

It’s not that the umpty-dimensional indie-prog melange presented here is objectionable – far from it – but that it’s so unfocused that it becomes difficult to perceive Broken Social Scene as anything but the musical equivalent of a chimpanzee typing pool: when they do come up with something lucid, it feels like it’s rather more by accident than design.

Yet that’s precisely what Broken Social Scene did when they released their second album, You Forgot It In People, a sprawling work that shuffled musicians, singers and styles from one track to another. Individually a great group of songs, but an even stronger whole, it’s the kind of enigmatic epiphany that only comes around every few years or so. Or, more accurately, it’s the kind of artistic breakthrough that happens pretty much every time Broken Social Scene decides to put out a new album. Still, for an album that extends beyond 64 minutes, Forgiveness Rock Record is remarkably lean on filler, while high on grace and exuberance. In the five years it’s taken for Broken Social Scene to deliver a new album, they seem to have lost interest in making their most explosive songs. Instead, they’ve settled on merely delivering some of their best.

Broken Social Scene returns with a leaner core of musicians on its latest album, Forgiveness Rock Record. Broken Social Scene returns with a leaner core of musicians on its latest album, Forgiveness Rock Record. And while many of those side bands have found great success in the mainstream and transitioned into full-time gigs, Broken Social Scene carries on. From the beginning, the group's spiritual and musical identity has been driven by its co-founders, Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning

Album Forgiveness Rock Record. 1. 6. All to All Lyrics. Call of forgiveness I'm like the beat of the hurt I'm not the only one you tried to save when you fell out Call of forgiveness I'm like the clean in the dirt I'm not the only one you tried to crave when you fell out. (Try, wait) You made your life on everything (Hard, made) You made your life on everything (Try, wait) You made your life on everything (Long, fade) You made your life on everything  . All To All is the only Broken Social Scene song to feature lead vocals from Lisa Lobsinger, who joined the troupe in 2005 as the band’s full-time live female vocalist.
