A gold rush is a new discovery of gold-sometimes accompanied by other precious metals and rare earth minerals-that brings an onrush of miners seeking their fortune. Major gold rushes took place in the 19th century in Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Canada, South Africa and the United States, while smaller gold rushes took place elsewhere. The wealth that resulted was distributed widely because of reduced migration costs and low barriers to entry.

Walk along the palm and eucalyptus-lined paths here and it becomes obvious why tourists flock to this oceanside park in Santa Monica. Nestled between the beach and Ocean Avenue, this bluff-top park runs the length of Santa Monica's northern coast with stunning views of the ocean and Santa Monica Mountains-this is the postcard picture of LA's coastline that lives in most people's heads

Love this park and walk here all the time in the PM. My only complaint is that the people who go here, leave trash around and walk their dogs off leash. Otherwise the city does a great job of maintaining this park. I am lucky to enjoy it. There's a great story behind the 18-foot-tall sculpture of Saint Monica in Palisades Park! Our city namesake, Monica, was born in 300 . and shed many tears in her lifetime due to the evil deeds of her son, St. Augustine of Hippo. For these reasons, St. Monica came to represent the virtues of unconditional love, strength and patience.

Over time, word spread to the eastern United States. Men left their homes and families to seek their fortunes. By the mid-1850s, the Gold Rush was over, but people still came to California. In 1850, California became the 31st. California wasn’t the only place where people went looking for gold. Gold was discovered in Colorado in 1859, almost 10 years after the Colorado Gold Rush. Thousands of miners flocked to Colorado, creating the cities of Denver and Boulder, as well as smaller mining towns in the mountains. Some of these towns, like Idaho Springs and Central City, are still around.

After the Gold Rush by Neil Young - Album Cover Location. The photo was taken by photographer Joel Bernstein, most likely sometime in early 1970, as the album came out in August of that year. In the book: Shakey: Neil Young's Biography ((c) 2002, Random House) author Jimmy McDonough writes that Bernstein, 18-years-old at the time, was "shocked" that Neil chose that photo for the cover. Washington Square Park is on top. On the left side of the law school is Macdougal Street, the site of many famous folk and rock clubs in the 60's where Neil used to play. There are several clubs, like the Cafe Wha?, still going strong today.
