Trumpeter Jeff Beal, who has very impressive technique, displays obvious love for both jazz and classical music during his nine compositions included on this release. On "Exit Only"' Beal's tone might immediately recall Chuck Mangione but his solo is much more advanced. The gospellish "Crossing The River" (which has a colorful tradeoff between Beal and tenorman Bob Mintzer) is reminiscent of Keith Jarrett while the colorful funk of "Meshugenah Man" would have fit in perfectly in the repertoire of Miles Davis' 1980's band.

Jeff Beal (born June 20, 1963) is an American composer of music for film, television, recordings, and the concert hall. Highly regarded as a jazz instrumentalist and versatile composer, Beal's music often incorporates a synthesis of improvisatory and composed elements. Beal was born in Hayward, California, and began trumpet studies in the third grade after attending a school music assembly at Castro Valley's Marshall Elementary School with his father
