Naglfar formed in 1992. The band was originally called Uninterred, and was founded by Jens Rydén on vocals and guitar, and Kristoffer Olivius on bass. The band had its first full line-up when Ulf Andersson from Nocturnal Rites joined the band to play drums, and Morgan Hansson and Fredrik Degerström joined on guitar. With this new line-up. Rydén could concentrate on vocals. The album was followed by a highly successful tour together with Dark Funeral across Europe, as well as several festival dates.

With the departure of founding vocalist Jens Rydén following 2003's Sheol, this album saw bassist Kristoffer Olivius stepping forward to take over the role of frontman, handling a loss that may have proved fatal to most other bands with what appears to be surprising ease. Indeed, so similar are both men's infernal shrieking that one can hardly tell the difference.

Naglfar work now like a full time band, as their next release comes only two years later (there was a bigger lag between their previous releases). Something really important to mention, is that the vocalist (who was also one of the founders of the band) Jens Rydén, leaves Naglfar and the vocals position goes to the band's bassist, Kristoffer "Wrath" Olivius.
