Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, bass. Gächinger Kantorei Bach-Collegium Stuttgart, Helmut Rilling. Few singers have as varied a repertory as Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau – not only has he left an indelible mark on the German lieder, but he is also an excellent opera singer and a magnificent performer of Bach¹s sacred vocal works. This recording features two cantatas for bass.

Gächinger Kantorei Stuttgart. Lecture Concerts: Bach Cantatas. Gächinger Kantorei Stuttgart. The Soulful Bach and Telemann. Naxos featured album.

Helmuth Rilling (b. 1933) recorded all of Johann Sebastian Bach's (1685-1750) sacred Cantatas between 1970 and 1985, with the Bach Collegium Stuttgart and in some cases, Württemburg Chamber Orchestra on 70 CDs as presented here. I find this to be an excellent set: the performances are excellent even if the recording job is in some cases not as clear as the later, digital recordings. Some writers are too critical of Rilling's set, which I believe to be excellent. Soloists: Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Arleen Auger among them.

Bach: Cantatas, BWV 80-82. Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. Gabriele Schreckenbach. Stuttgart Bach Collegium. Württemberg Chamber Orchestra.
