Singles is the seventh compilation album by English rock band The Smiths, pitched as a compilation of previously issued singles. It was released in February 1995 by the new owner of their back catalogue, WEA (Sire Records in the United States). Its highest British chart position was it did not chart in the United States.
The Smiths is the eponymous debut studio album by English rock band the Smiths, released on 20 February 1984 by Rough Trade Records. After the original production by Troy Tate was felt to be inadequate, John Porter re-recorded the album in London, Manchester and Stockport during breaks in the band's UK tour during September 1983. The album was well received by critics and listeners, and reached number two on the UK Albums Chart, staying on the chart for 33 weeks

If you are new to The Smiths, this is a fantastic album. yikes, haven't heard that from Britney) and a riff you just never forget. There are other great bands from the '80s, but The Smiths were unique. When they disbanded after the 'Strangeways' album (in 1987 I think), it was a kind of blessing only in that they quit before the energy and creativity left. Their last album is a stunner - nothing half hearted. I've seen this happen in other people's lives, now it's happening in mine.
