Autechre (/ɔːˈtɛkər/) are an English electronic music duo consisting of Rob Brown and Sean Booth, both from Rochdale, Greater Manchester. Formed in 1987, they are one of the best known acts signed to UK electronic label Warp Records, through which all of Autechre's full-length albums have been released beginning with their 1993 debut Incunabula. They gained initial recognition when they were featured on Warp's 1992 compilation Artificial Intelligence.

Oversteps is the tenth album by electronic music duo Autechre, released on Warp Records in 2010. A few months after its release, Oversteps was followed by a companion EP entitled Move of Ten.

Despite this, Oversteps is a fine album. Os Veix3' and 'St Epreo' are brooding metallic juggernauts whose fathomless melancholy would not have sounded out of place on one of Autechre's first three albums. In comparison with those older works however, every track on Oversteps sounds huge. The refinement of the producers' abilities as sound designers has resulted in a record that evokes incalculably vast sonic space. In some respects Oversteps is analogous with Autechre's work in general. At points it is obtuse and wilfully antagonistic. At others it is sublime.

Although Oversteps is much gentler than the Autechre stereotype, it's not complacent. Treale" has real forward movement, the opening sounds different from the midsection, and the background ambience changes as the song progresses. There is enough detail here to satisfy the patient listener, but the music is generally harmonious enough to make the effort rewarding. It does in my opinion recall some earlier works, particularly Chiastic Slide (well, in some instances).

Oversteps is Autechre's tenth album, released on Warp Records.

Oversteps is different. It's not a complete regression, but Autechre reinvents themselves in their former image here, recalling past records without sounding regurgitated. Songs like "qplay" and "os veix3" are perfect throwbacks to the days of Amber : that is, they're propelled by a simple yet aggressive melody, which is subtly accented by various bloops, bleeps, and discordant squeals. Yet everything feels slightly unhinged; the intrusions of these varying effects are much more random and discombobulated than they were on those 90's records.

Oversteps is certainly no exception to their outwardly difficult aesthetic and could, on initial listens, get thrown in with unforgivingly tricksy 2003 set Draft . 0. Disregard the fact that the song titles largely resemble a Scrabble game with a corrupted Eastern European supercomputer, however. Beneath the icy exterior, deceptively warm hearts beat, rushing synthetic blood at thresholds with almost maniacal glee as they smash apart linear constraints. Those already familiar are swiftly on reassuring ground.
