After Tri Repetae++, the stunning leap forward with which Autechre astounded the techno world, the duo's fourth proper album came as a disappointment to many. Even worse, the album has too few ideas for its near 70-minute length, and the duo seem content with short loops being repeated and repeated over again for up to ten minutes on a single track

Chiastic Slide is the fourth studio album by the British electronic music group Autechre, released 24 February 1997 by Warp Records. Though not initially met with the same critical acclaim as Tri Repetae or LP5, Chiastic Slide was eventually recognized by critics as an innovative and "enormously influential" album. Chiastic Slide was released on 24 February 1997. It did not receive a release in the United States until Warp Records began distributing its own releases there in 2001.
3 Tri Repetae, Chiastic Slide, and LP5 (1995–1999). Confield, Draft . 0, and Untilted (2000–2007). In 1993 Warp released their debut album, Incunabula, which became a surprise success, reaching the top of the UK Indie Chart. The album had a cool, calculated feel, with clear techno and electro roots, but also showed hints of the rhythmic flourishes and tuned percussion that would later become an important feature of their work. An EP of remixes of Incunabula's "Basscadet" was released in 1994, with animated computer graphics for the Bcdtmx version created by Jess Scott-Hunter
