Bernstein's "Concerto for Guitar & Orchestra - For Two Christophers" is named as such because it was not only written for Parkening, but also for the late orchestrator Christopher Palmer. Broken into three parts, the first part "Guitar" is primarily upbeat, and is has energetic bouts, intermingled with sweeping string work, as well as some brass fanfare touches, reminiscent of Bernstein's film work. The second part, "Reflections", is exactly that - reflective.

Bernstein & Parkening include a beaufiful Jack Marshall adaptation of a piano work by Issac Albeniz, La Vega, as a tribute to the late . Marshall (1921-1973) was a prominent guitarist, composer, & arranger (Peggy Lee's Grammy-nominated "Fever"). As an extra treat, The album concludes with Marshall's own "Essay for Guitar," a previously unreleased recording from 1967, & Parkening's first studio recording, conducted by Marshall. Bernstein loved being a film composer, was proud of his film music.

In Elmer Bernstein's Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra "For Two Christophers" the style of Parkening's playing is much more steady and full, as compared to the early recording on this disc. The concerto did not come easy to Parkening; it is evident in the solo parts of the second movement, where-if listen carefully-one hears the performer "struggling" for each note. Time hasn't change Parkening's approach to the Spanish classical guitar repertoire. The surprising piece on the disc is Jack Marshall's 'Essay'. After listening to the latest recordings of Christopher Parkening you are now transferred to the 1950's where a 19-year-old Parkening was just starting his virtuoso career.

During this period Parkening rarely played guitar choosing instead to focus his attention on his Montana ranch and trout stream. While visiting his Southern California home in winter; a neighbor invited Parkening to the Grace Community Church. Profoundly affected by this experience Parkening returned to recording and performing with a renewed sense of purpose.
