Beggars is the seventh studio album by American rock band Thrice. It was released digitally through Vagrant Records in the UK on August 9, 2009 and in the US on August 11, 2009. A physical release containing bonus material was released on September 15, 2009. Writing for Beggars began in January 2009, with the band aiming to make the record "a little more upbeat and energetic" following their two previous projects, Vheissu and The Alchemy Index, which they felt had a "sleepy feeling" to them

Thrice's follow-up album, Beggars, whose release feels curiously sudden next to the prolonged incubation period and delayed release date of the The Alchemy Index, is certainly a blend of all of Thrice's influences and styles. However, Beggars is an anti-magnum opus. They went into the studio geared to create an album that came together as naturally as possible, emphasizing wonderfully nebulous abstract nouns like "feel" and "groove

Surprise, Thrice made another great album! Definitely a change of pace since their Alchemy Index, but all their albums are different and this one fits in well as a transition to Major/Minor. I don't know how to start describing it, since they're a pretty unique band, but this one seems like one of their closest to a rock album maybe. Beggars will without a doubt be among my top 5 albums of the year along with the latest from Mastodon, Porcupine Tree, Pearl Jam, and an open slot for something yet to get released.
BEGGARS, the group’s seventh album, wisely sidesteps some of the indulgences of their ambitious (but flawed) EP series, THE ALCHEMY INDEX. Containing all of the progressive fire of that series, tempered by a straightforward and honest approach to song craft, the album delivers a lot of what longtime Thrice fans have been clamoring for (colossal, heavy riffs) while striving for sound that won’t alienate newer, more mainstream, listeners.
