A single fifty-nine minute piece, & Passing' has Roach presenting understated recurring musical themes in much the same manner as the title track off his sublime & of Time' album from 2016, which won't be instantly noticeable, but will unexpectedly reveal themselves on repeated quiet listens.

The thematic essence contained in this new soundworld has haunted me since the late 90's, when I created a short piece for a compilation centered on the main harmonic chord cycle. Through the passage of time, the evanescent nature of this atmosphere only grew more poignant and deeper in emotional resonance. Roach's 5th solo album features sophisticated, energetic sequencer music, similar to his earlier NOW and TRAVELER, ending with a haunting, melodic piece, "The Memory," more akin to his floating ambient work of the period. EMPETUS' full blown sequencer-based music illustrates a further evolution in the visceral side of Roach's music.

Steve Roach (born February 16, 1955) is an American composer and performer of ambient and electronic music, whose recordings are informed by his impressions of environment, perception, flow and space. His work has been influential in the new age genre. Roach has received two Grammy Award nominations for New Age Album of the Year: His 2017 album Spiral Revelation for the 60th Annual Grammy Awards. and 2018's Molecules Of Motion for the 61st Annual Grammy Awards.
