Loose is the third studio album by American singer/songwriter Victoria Williams, released in 1994. Her previous album, 1990’s Swing the Statue!, won some critical praise but completely failed to attract commercial attention, and the collapse of Rough Trade Records left her without a contract until Mammoth bought the rights to that album.

In 1995 Victoria Williams toured with the Loose band. Critics swooned and acclaimed her live shows as beautiful and intimate, set lists varied every night, special guests happened along. Finally they reached a town hall (somewhere) and this Record was created. Seven of the tracks are taken from ‘Loose’ but they are reduced Darwin-like, made even more personal. She harks back to the earlier Donnie Darko-like strangeness of ‘Crazy Mary’, sketches small town America on the ‘Summer Of Drugs’ and welcomes Lou Reed for a duet on ‘Sweet Jane’. No Depression at the time enthused about a live show.

Victoria Williams' first international tour as a headliner - supporting her 1994 release Loose - yielded This Moment: In Toronto With the Loose Band, her first concert recording. Williams (guitar/vocals) is supported by a six-piece band centering around the Williams Brothers (no relation to Victoria), David (vocals) and Andrew (guitar), as well as Tim Ray (keyboards) - all of whom had participated in the creation of Loose. Joining them are neo-folk session heavyweights Joey Burns (bass/vocals) and David Mansfield (violin/dobro/pedal steel guitar/mandolin).

Victoria Williams (born December 23, 1958) is an American singer, songwriter and musician, originally from Shreveport, Louisiana, although she has resided in Southern California throughout her musical career. She is noted for her descriptive songwriting talent, which she has used to immerse the listener of her songs into a vivid feeling of small-town, rural Southern upbringing and life.
