Which meant that Talking Heads' fourth album didn't have as many jokes as their earlier records did. It also meant that the band no longer sounded twitchy and overcaffeinated; it made music that was confident and fluid. The Heads had already mastered minimalist funk, but here they built jams around thick, slurred rhythms, with additional musical contributions from producer Brian Eno. Byrne claimed a heavy African influence on the music, although the other Heads disputed that, saying he didn't mention it until after they finished recording.
Talking Heads - Remain In Light (1980).
Classic Album Sundays. Talking Heads "Remain in Light". This album was released in '94, when I was a young teen, and was what got me into their older catalog of stuff. I remember thinking this was such a beautiful-sad & nostalgic-piece of videography. sallie elizabeth antley.

Non-Appearing Title: "Life During Wartime" and "New Feeling", among others. Notable Music Videos: Once in a Lifetime, Burning Down the House, Wild, Wild Life. Later on, "Road to Nowhere" is a Pep Talk Song about reconciling yourself to the inevitability of death. The Perfectionist: Byrne, notoriously so, to the point where it drove Brian Eno away from working with the band after Remain in Light and played a significant factor in the band's 1991 breakup.
Remain in Light pulled me in for the first time with its unfamiliar rhythms and art-rock sensibilities. I pored over the lyric sheet when I first received the album, and the perfection of their post-modern inscrutability continues to be a source of pleasure. Possibly even more important was David Byrne. I'm no idolater and I eschew celebrity, but David Byrne was an object of rare obsession for a moment in late eighth grade.
