The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads is a double live album by Talking Heads, originally released in 1982. The first disc featured the original quartet in recordings from 1977 and 1979, and the second disc the expanded ten-piece lineup that toured in 1980 and 1981. The album contains live versions of songs that appear on their first four studio albums, Talking Heads: 77, More Songs About Buildings and Food, Fear of Music, and Remain in Light

I got to see this band during the Stop Making Sense Tour (the tour they filmed the movie); at Forest Hills. Wow that band rocked. The second disc is indicative of the energy. Great memories from a great great band. Reply Notify me Helpful. Marketplace 0 10 For Sale from €. 3.

Noting that many people mistakenly referred to Talking Heads as The Talking Heads, Byrne wanted to establish once and for all with this album title that that wasn’t correct. The Name of This Band is Talking Heads turned out to be even more of an apt title than Byrne may have anticipated, as in many ways, this album served as the heart of what Talking Heads were all about. It showcased them at their very best and demonstrated what was so ground-breaking and unique about them at each point of their career. The album began with a song from the band’s first album, entitled New Feeling. Byrne introduced it to the crowd in his typical minimalist fashion, stating simply, This name of this song is ‘New Feeling. That’s what it’s about.

Though Talking Heads definitely had a carefully tailored image, the music always seemed to dominate, as it clearly does on this collection. In any case, this incredible reissue of this once almost lost recording allows anyone to resurrect Talking Heads at their musical peak. 13 people found this helpful. The title of the album is a reference both to the group's preference for having no expressed definite article within the band name (as opposed to "The Talking Heads") and to David Byrne's minimalist introductions to songs. The album opens with one such introduction: "The name of this song is New Feeling. That's what it's about.

Speaking in Tongues (Talking Heads album). Speaking in Tongues is the fifth studio album by American rock band Talking Heads, released on June 1, 1983 by Sire Records. Following their split with producer Brian Eno and a short hiatus, which allowed the individual members to pursue side projects, recording began in 1982. It became the band's commercial breakthrough and produced the band's first (and only) US top-ten hit, "Burning Down the House".

Although most people probably think the only Talking Heads live release is Stop Making Sense, the fact is that there's an earlier, better live album called The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads. Originally released in 1982 on LP and cassette, the album chronicles the growth of the band, both stylistically and personnel-wise. The first LP is the original quartet version of the band, recorded between 1977 and 1979, performing excellent versions of tunes (mostly) off 77 and More Songs About Buildings and Food.

As powerful as Talking Heads were at the time, Stop Making Sense still functions as a live document of one band at one moment in time (well, not technically- the film was actually recorded over three nights). For a group such as this, who paid attention to the musical world around them, deftly and quickly folding outside influences as seemingly disparate as disco, afrobeat, funk and new wave into their already unique sound, The Name of This Band's approach- collecting various live performances over a four-year period- is more revelatory and rewarding. Spanning the band's entire 11-year career, it's well-selected considering its considerable limitations and is arguably more inclusive than The Name of This Band, but it is also unnecessary as anything other than a grab bag of familiar radio hits.
