This live album, which boasts a new song in the form of the title track, draws from all of Antony's studio albums. The renditions of that back catalog are rendered so powerfully by the Danish National Chamber Orchestra that the originals seem almost incomplete by comparison. He has performed in front of a full orchestra often over the years, but Cut the World is the first sustained glimpse those of us outside the hall have gotten of the results. You Are My Sister"'s opening piano figure carries twice the drama brought into pungent, mournful woodwinds. The DNCO plays with a simple radiance, as if they've always been a part of this music. The only song that feels diminished is "Another World"; a low drone tugs.
Antony and the Johnsons is the debut album by Antony and the Johnsons, recorded in 1998 and released officially in 2000. Originally, the album was released in 2000 on David Tibet's label Durtro. Antony and the Johnsons was reissued by Secretly Canadian in 2004. All tracks written by Anohni. Anohni – voice, piano. François Gehin – bass. Vicky Leavitt – cello. William Basinski – clarinet. Barb Morrison – clarinet, saxophone. Mariana Davenport – flute.
Antony and the Johnsons release a live album recorded with the Danish National Chamber Orchestra. Cut the World’ was recorded with the Danish National Chamber Orchestra in Copenhagen in 2011 and is a stunning display of his vocal dexterity, placed alongside his gentle wit and skills as an arranger. His torch songs and tales of unparalleled loneliness have never sounded so perfect and wonderfully constructed. With his precarious and unique delivery, he chooses to use over seven minutes of the running time to speak of transgender woes in the face of religion, of the cyclical phases of the moon and reincarnation
