Turning, full title Turning: A Film by Charles Atlas and Antony is a documentary musical art film by video artist Charles Atlas based on a stage collaboration Atlas had with British-American artist Antony Hegarty and her band The Johnsons. The film focuses on 13 artists being performance women artists, models, butch lesbians and transsexuals who appeared with Antony and the Johnsons

Atlas directed a documentary about the tour, also called Turning, while Antony and the Johnsons have released a soundtrack album that documents the London date on the tour. Stripped of its visuals (and even without Atlas's images, watching Hegarty wring the joy and horror of this music out of himself is powerful stuff), the Turning album seems significantly less ambitious than either the film or the stage show, but the strong palette of human passions is very much the same in these 17 songs, and the performances are.

Antony and the Johnsons collaborated with experimental film-maker Charles Atlas and presented TURNING in November 2006 in Rome, London, Paris, Madrid, and Braga. Thirteen women from New York City were presented in intimate live video portraits during the course of the concert. Le Monde in Paris hailed TURNING as "Concert-manifeste transsexuel". Antony and the Johnsons' 5-song Another World EP was released on 7 October 2008. Antony and the Johnsons released a 4th album Swanlights on 12 October 2010 through Secretly Canadian and Rough Trade Records.

Charles Atlas and I spent seven years producing the film and another year and a half showing the film at select festivals. In the last three years especially, the recognition of transgendered people and the resurgence of feminist consciousness has exploded in popular culture around the world.

In 2011 and 2012, Antony Hegarty and artist Charles Atlas screened their film Turning at theaters around the world. The film documented Antony and the Johnsons' fall 2006 European tour, which featured the band performing alongside 13 women. Now, it's getting a DVD (and digital) release alongside an album of Antony and the Johnsons' full November 2006 live set at the Barbican in London.
