Monty Python's Contractual Obligation Album is the final studio album by Monty Python, released in 1980. Besides newly written songs and sketches, the sessions saw re-recordings of material that dated back to the 1960s pre-Python shows I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again, The Frost Report, At Last The 1948 Show and How To Irritate People.
Like the legendary White Album, in the main 'Monty Python's Contractual Obligation Album' showcases each group member as an individual talent. Michael Palin says: The record came along at a time we were all busy on separate projects so John would come straight from ‘Fawlty Towers’ or something with a couple of things he wanted to record.

This album,over-all,is a good mix of sketches and musical comedy. The Bonus material is less than exciting. The Terry Jones & Graham Chapman interview is boring.
For all intents and purposes, this is almost an Eric Idle solo album, since a majority of the songs were written by him or with Neil Innes (the two had recently collaborated on the brilliant Beatles parody, The Rutles). Not that they aren't funny: "I Like Chinese," "Medical Love Song," and "Never Be Rude to an Arab" raise a smile, and "Decomposing Composers," (not by Idle) despite the obvious pun of the title, is actually quite affecting, delivered in a gentle Cockney drawl by Michael Palin.
Studio album by Monty Python Released 1980 Genre. As noted above, some pressings of Contractual Obligation Album omit the "Farewell to John Denver" track. The original UK vinyl pressing also contained an unintentionally out-of-sync mix on the song "I'm So Worried" which was subsequently corrected. there was no need to clear the John Denver sample, as both this album and the source of the sample-"Annie's Song"-came out on and were owned by the same label.
One track, "Bells", dates from the sessions for Monty Python's Previous Record, while further material was adapted from Eric Idle's post-Python series Rutland Weekend Television. The group also reworked material written but discarded from early drafts of Life Of Brian as well as the initial scripts for what would eventually become The Meaning Of Life. The group had not recorded an all-studio album since Matching Tie and Handkerchief in 1973 and were initially unenthusiastic about returning to the recording studio. Fresh from co-producing the Life Of Brian soundtrack album,.
