Zapp is the debut studio album by the American funk band Zapp, released on July 28, 1980 by Warner Bros. The album's style was highly similar to c, as the band was working with and being mentored by both Parliament members William Earl "Bootsy" Collins and George Clinton during the album's production. The album was produced by Zapp frontman Roger Troutman and Bootsy. The Troutman family of the Zapp band had close ties with the Collins family, both being Ohio natives.
Propelled by the dancefloor smash "More Bounce to the Ounce," the album quickly became a considerable hit. It was here that Troutman first defined the vocoder-laden funk aesthetic that would become his trademark for the remainder of his career. In addition to the near ten-minute "More Bounce," the album also featured "Be Alright," another epic jam that slowed down the funk to a smoked-out, almost ballad-like tempo (both songs would later fuel numerous early-'90s West Coast rap hits via sampling).
June 20, 2018 In News. A tribute to Roger Troutman, featuring Bootsy Collins, Tuxedo and Snoop Dogg. Few bands captured the slick sound of late ’70s and ’80s funk quite like Zapp. Built around four Troutman brothers Roger, Larry, Lester and Terry, Zapp’s trailblazing use of the talk-box was influential in the the development of electro, hip-hop and G-funk. It spawned a litany of monster hits like ‘More Bounce To The Ounce’, ‘Dance Floor’ and quite possibly the greatest slow jam of all time, ‘Computer Love’. As if you needed reminding.

Zapp (also known as the Zapp Band or Zapp & Roger) is an American funk band that emerged from Hamilton, Ohio, in 1977. Particularly influential in the electro subgenre of funk, Zapp served as partial inspiration toward the creation of the G-funk sound of hip-hop popular on the West Coast of the United States in the early to mid 1990s, with many of their songs sampled by numerous hip-hop artists. Zapp released its eponymous debut album in 1980, having a sound reminiscent of P-Funk as a result of Clinton's and Collins' input on the production.
