Devin Townsend has gone many different musical places in his career, frequently doing something drastically different that what he’s done before, most notably on his first four albums in the Devin Townsend Project with Ki, Addicted, Deconstruction, and Ghost. The album starts off with a re-recording of an older Devin Townsend song ‘Truth’ the opener to his 1998 album Infinity. From start to finish, Transcendence is a flawless album, taking what Devin Townsend has done in the past, and perfecting it in a way that will most definitely please fans.

Devin Townsend said that his latest Devin Townsend Project album Transcendence was about getting over himself and the need to be a controlling prog dude. It also blew our mind back-to-front. Now comprising Devin on vocals and guitar, Dave Young also on guitar, Brian Waddell wobbling the bass, drum-abuser Ryan Van Poederooyen and Mike St-Jean playing keys, the Project has defied genre, audience expectations and critics.
