Mac DeMarco might be the wild and crazy showman on stage, but Salad Days shows there's plenty of tenderness behind that shit-eating, gap-toothed grin. For all the pomp and circumstance preceding Salad Days, this is still an album that DeMarco recorded in his Brooklyn walkup. It’s a record that boasts glaring maturity without diminishing the iconic immaturity.
Mac DeMarco is a rad kid, born 1990 who has just released his second album. It's built off the cynicism and harshness that is the fame leviathan. This monster with its constant attachments and Mac feeds off it in this album. Combining interesting melodies and riffs and whatnot that are relaxed at a slow beach wave tempo with cynical and melancholy lyrics that are quite often less introspective and more or less serve as an unsure assurance to himself. What you're essentially left with is an introspective album. An album built around DeMarco's incessant, gnawing insecurities and over-thinking that bashes calmly itself against the thin, smooth and upbeat/relaxed melodies that Mac contrasts against the cynical lyricism swarming this album. It's quite easy to enjoy this cohesive, short and chilled out mood of an album.
Salad Days (CD, Album). so I got to listen even more to this album. It's the type of album that really works well on vinyl. You just put in on and chill
Album · 2014 · 11 Songs. Despite his reputation as something of a hard-partying rock prankster (not many musicians play a guitar customized with an old beer bottle cap), Mac DeMarco, on record at least, has always been a hopeless romantic. And here, on his second album, the Canadian singer/songwriter effectively leans into loverman mode (just see Let My Baby Stay ). But Passing Out Pieces is a particular marvel: Cast in cloudy synths and dark humor, it’s the sound of slacker rock’s clown prince getting serious. Salad Days Mac DeMarco.
Macky’s been a bad, bad boy, Mac DeMarco declares on his second album. Glance around the Internet, and you can see why: The 23-year-old Montreal indie rocker loves to get naked, smoke and crossdress. It’d be easy to write him off as another product of Generation Selfie. But Salad Days is packed with wry, knowing lyrics and washed-out vocals, like a meeting of Stephen Malkmus and Marc Bolan. On Let My Baby Stay, he ruminates on relationship paranoia, and Brother philosophically urges you to let it go over groovy, pot-fueled guitars – it’s slacker rock that (sort of) has a message

Mac Demarco delivers one of the year’s best albums with ‘Salad Days‘. Oh now, you’ve done it again, no use when you already know how it ends. Throughout Salad Days, singer/songwriter Mac Demarco seems incredibly down – there is the sense of the constant ‘bummer’. However, even though Demarco gets down within Salad Days about various things, he also offers atoning words of wisdoms and relatable truths.
