Cheap Trick is the first studio album released in 1977 by the American rock band Cheap Trick. It was their debut album for Epic Records, produced by Jack Douglas. The album did not reach the Billboard 200 chart but did "bubble under" at number 207 for one week in April 1977. Most of the songs have a more raw sound akin to hard rock bands of the period compared to the group's later more polished power pop style, and the song lyrics deal with more extreme subject matter than later albums.

Cheap Trick is an American rock band from Rockford, Illinois, formed in 1973. The band's classic lineup consisted of vocalist Robin Zander, guitarist Rick Nielsen, bassist Tom Petersson, and drummer Bun E. Carlos. Cheap Trick released its debut album in 1977 and first found success in Japan with the release of its second album, In Color, later that year. The band would achieve mainstream popularity in the United States in 1979 with its breakthrough album Cheap Trick at Budokan

Cheap Trick launched their recording career with one of the most impressive hot streaks in rock history. The Rockford, Ill. foursome firmly established themselves as the undisputed titans of power pop with four studio efforts - and one very important live one - that delivered endless hooks, fuzz, quirks and sing-along brilliance. This debut stretch is not only impressive for the material it produced (40-plus gems that continue to serve as the core of Cheap Trick's blistering live set) but also for the compressed time period in which it was released. Five great albums between the winter. Even the haunting ballad ‘Mandocello’ – the album’s prettiest moment – includes a vicious bassline from Petersson that sounds as if he was plucking it out on power lines.

The album itself is as versatile and thoughtful-a genre-hopping collection of jazz, funk, house, and disco that rolls out like a survey of all the fun the ’80s could offer. Listen: Patrice Rushen: Haven’t You Heard. In other places, Flipper stand up for life- the only thing worth living for -and turn nihilism into a blank slate full of potential, much the way Richard Hell’s Blank Generation did a half-decade before. Throughout Album - Generic Flipper, the band is bent on upending its own gravity, and sometimes it can all feel like an awesome joke. But Flipper’s first record is much more passionate than a punchline. Listen: Flipper: Life Is Cheap. Flipper Perform The Way of the World Live.
