In 1936 he had started to study trumpet as well, and in 1948 he decided to become a professional jazz musician, after a jam session with Rex Stewart. Oscar Valdambrini (May 11, 1924, Turin - December 26, 1996, Rome) was an Italian jazz trumpeter. According to The New Grove, he "had a central role in the emergence of a modern jazz movement in Italy". Valdambrini's professional career began in the late 1940s, when he played with Rex Stewart, and soon after co-led a small ensemble with Gianni Basso. Valdambrini's association with Basso would continue through the early 1960s

Renato Sellani (8 January 1926 – 31 October 2014) was an Italian jazz pianist and composer. Born in Senigallia, Sellani started his professional career in 1954, when he entered the Basso-Valdambrini Quintet. In 1958 he started a long collaboration with his longtime friend Franco Cerri. He was part of the RAI National Symphony Orchestra directed by Gorni Kramer
