Humbug is the third studio album by English rock band Arctic Monkeys, first released on 19 August 2009 through the Domino Recording Company. The band started to write songs for the album towards the end of summer 2008, and finished it entirely in spring 2009. Like their previous release, Favourite Worst Nightmare (2007), Humbug was released first in Japan, on 19 August 2009, followed by Australia, Brazil, Ireland and Germany, on 21 August 2009

Humbug is Arctic Monkeys' third studio album. The album was recorded at the luxurious Rancho de la Luna during a pause in touring and activity in 2008. This short hiatus was a change in pace after the quick work ethic displayed in between their debut and Favourite Worst Nightmare. The trippy, brash sound used in the new record was adopted partly with the help of Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme. The sounds developed on the album showed AM charting an entirely new landscape that was left untouched on their first two albums. Humbug was the group’s third consecutive album to immediately chart at on the UK Billboard top 200, further proving their longevity.

Wading into the murk of Humbug it becomes clear that the common ground between the Monkeys and Homme is the actual act of making music, the pleasure of not knowing what comes next when an entire band is drifting inside a zone.

So in reality, it's not too surprising that Humbug is the weakest Arctic Monkeys album yet. What is surprising, though, is where the strengths and weaknesses of this album lie. You'd expect the songs to impress and the sound to disappoint, and yet, the exact opposite is true. However regularly Homme has disappointed since Songs for the Deaf made him a star, and whatever stories have come out about his personal life, you simply can't fault what he does here - the sound is basically perfect.

The hype surrounding Arctic Monkeys' 2006 debut album was so monstrous it threatened to swallow the band and its music whole. And a lesser band might have been swallowed, but it should be clear by now that Arctic Monkeys weren't undone by a little media frenzy. It's no surprise: They're a skilled band that writes complex songs filled with unexpected musical turns, wit, and observational acumen.

Band Name Arctic Monkeys.
