The set also includes a car window decal. Though it never charted, Good Vibrations: Thirty Years of The Beach Boys went gold in the US just over four months after its release.

A five-CD box set, containing a whopping 142 tracks and covering the group's entire career, that manages to feel like too much and not enough at the same time. True, all of the key hits and most of their finest album tracks are here. The group's decline after 1966 - and very sharp decline after 1970 - is inescapable, and even though most of the material here is from the 1960s, the fourth disc especially (spanning the early '70s to the late '80s) is very rough sailing indeed

Album: Smiley Smile (1966). Most of The Beach Boys songs featured the vocals of either Mike Love or Brian Wilson, but Carl Wilson was the lead singer on this one. Beach Boy drummer Dennis Wilson was initially tagged to sing the lead vocal but eventually brother Carl was chosen.

Listen to the Beach Boys Perform 'Good Vibrations'. Even after he got past his own doubts, Wilson had to face the Beach Boys. He'd played a tape of the work in progress to his brother/bandmate Carl, who Brian remembered describing the song simply as "bizarre," and even after assembling what he was sure was the perfect mix, he encountered a mixture of confusion and indifference during that first playback session with the band. Nevertheless, Wilson managed to wrangle his bandmates on board for their vocal sessions, which included an ethereal lead vocal from Carl - who subbed in at the last minute for another Wilson brother, drummer Dennis, due to a case of laryngitis - and a key lyrical contribution from the most musically conservative Beach Boy, Mike Love. I came up with the part that goes: 'I’m pickin’ up good vibrations, She’s giving me excitations.
