The Running on Empty album was Browne's grand experiment: a set of all-new songs recorded onstage, in hotel rooms and on the tour bus. The title track was actually written while Browne was driving to the studio each day to make The Pretender. I was always driving around with no gas in the car," he said. This is the song I've been waiting," said producer Bell, who laid it down with the famous Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section. Appears on: Bealtitude: Respect Yourself (Stax). It made me so paranoid about writing," Harrison said. I thought, 'I don't even want to touch the guitar, in case I'm touching somebody's note.

Sweet Caroline' by Neil Diamond. What other song could we start this list off with? Neil wrote this classic, soaring ballad for his wife Marsha, but her name didn’t have enough syllables for him so he used the name Caroline instead. 2. Love On The Rocks (1980). Almost 30 years after he started, and Neil was still scoring hits. A beautiful ballad with those gorgeous soaring strings, it’s another song that came from the hit soundtrack for The Jazz Singer. An official Broadway musical about the life of Neil Diamond was announced, with 'Bohemian Rhapsody' writer Anthony McCarten aboard, in July 2019. The officially sanctioned project has no title yet but is set to include a wide range of Diamond’s hit songs and will be directed by Tony Award winner Michael Mayer, who previously worked on Green Day’s American Idiot musical. Along with the success of Bohemian Rhapsody, McCarten secured three Oscar nominations for the Winston Churchill biopic Darkest Hour and the Stephen Hawking movie The Theory of Everything.
