Boom Bip follows his superb CORYMB with BLUE EYED IN THE RED ROOM, which continues his unique brand of folk hip-hop, as evidenced by the bucolic opener, "Cimple. More often, though, like on the slightly aharmonic "Do's and Don'ts," he straddles both the indie rock and electronic worlds. Kind of electronic album I can list to over and over. songs are unique and have the spatial quality one finds in avant-garde jazz. Published on April 11, 2005.

Blue Eyed in the Red Room.

While Boom Bip's third LP is primed for the same sort of viral mutation as his debut, it finds him working coherently within the album format by pursuing his themes to their logical conclusions. I'm sure the remixes of Blue Eyed in a Red Room will be profligate and terrific; but in this instance, the source material itself is well worth your while.

Blue Eyed inarguably sets Hollon as one of the finest artists in electronica today, and it would be a shame if you were to miss out on this release. 80. Blue Eyed in the Red Room doesn’t fit any hip hop preconceptions. Moving deftly from influenced to influential, Boom Bip defines himself by leaving limitations behind. An agreeably bittersweet album. 40. Though comparisons to the Postal Service and M83’s newer work are somewhat understandable, the record lacks emotion in a way that makes it better suited for a Volvo commercial or a Starbucks compilation.

Brian Howe of Pitchfork Media gave the album a . out of 10, describing it as "a restful wash of clean, simple lines, unfractured beats, and neon-tinted melodies.

The first time I heard of Bryan Hollon, also known as Boom Bip, was when I saw him on a triple bill with Buck 65 and Sage Francis in Scotland. He had a couple helpers with him on stage that night, so unable to clearly make out his introduction as I got Sage's autograph, I assumed Boom Bip was a band.

Boom Bip follows his superb CORYMB with BLUE EYED IN THE RED ROOM, which continues his unique brand of folk hip-hop, as evidenced by the bucolic opener, “Cimple.” But “The Move” seems him plant a flag firmly in the IDM camp, and the spare and ethereal “Soft and Open” clicks into shape. More often, though, like on the slightly aharmonic “Do’s and Don’ts,” he straddles both the indie rock and electronic worlds. The echoing guitar chords and organ on “Dumb Day” continue to blur the lines, and “One Eye Around the Warm Corner” might fall into that dreaded ‘folktronica’ label, but it’s nonetheless lovely. The female vocals on “The Matter (of Our Discussion)” hints slightly of Dntel, but the composition is much warmer. Interesting: Boom Bip seems to be moving away from both the ‘boom’ and the ‘bip.’ This isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
