George Harrison and Ravi Shankar's 1974 North American tour was a 45-show concert tour of the United States and Canada, undertaken by English musician George Harrison and Indian sitarist Ravi Shankar in November and December of 1974. It is often referred to as the Dark Horse Tour, since the concerts served as a launch for Harrison's record label Dark Horse Records, to which Shankar was one of the inaugural signings, and Harrison's concurrent single was the song "Dark Horse".

Dark Horse (George Harrison album). Dark Horse is the fifth studio album by English rock musician George Harrison, released on Apple Records in December 1974 as the follow-up to Living in the Material World. Although keenly anticipated on release, Dark Horse is associated with the controversial North American tour that Harrison staged with Indian classical musician Ravi Shankar in November and December that year.

6 December 1974, afternoon show. Maple Leaf Gardens Toronto, Canada. Source - "Ice cold in Toronto" (Publisher - Premium Masters). Very nice recording of the show. The recording is clean, with a strong mid-range giving it a good sound. Missing the Indian music section. George's voice is similar to how it is on the hoarser tracks on the "Dark Horse" album.

George Harrison kicked off the first North American tour by a solo member of the Beatles on Nov. 2, 1974. As the George Harrison and Friends North American Tour began, on Nov. 2, 1974, at Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver, he'd become worn down, and croaky from relentless sessions and rehearsal work. Embattled from all sides, Harrison seemed to be itching for a fight. He’d hardheadedly rework his best known songs (confusing more than a few Beatles fans along the way), take pot shots at his former bandmates and ultimately wall himself off from those he was currently working with, too. As the Dark Horse album arrived late into the concert schedule, Harrison found himself on the edge of a breakdown.

George Harrison (album). George Harrison is the eighth studio album by English musician George Harrison, released in February 1979. I think this album is very pleasant. Billboard magazine featured George Harrison as its "Spotlight" album (meaning "the most outstanding new product.

In 1974, he organized Dark Horse Records, which - following the end of his contract with EMI in 1976 - became the imprint on which all of his subsequent solo work was issued. His albums from the '70s into the '80s always had an audience, but - except for Somewhere in England (1981), released in the wake of the murder of John Lennon - none attracted too many listeners beyond the core of serious fans.
