Come Together" is a song by Scottish rock band Primal Scream, released in August 1990 as the second single from their third studio album Screamadelica (1991). The song peaked at number 26 on the UK Singles Chart. The single versions of the song, mixed by Terry Farley, are radically different from the album version which was mixed by Andrew Weatherall
Primal Scream are a British rock band originally formed in 1982 in Glasgow by Bobby Gillespie (vocals) and Jim Beattie. The band's current lineup consists of Gillespie, Andrew Innes (guitar), Martin Duffy (keyboards), Simone Butler (bass), and Darrin Mooney (drums). Barrie Cadogan has toured and recorded with the band since 2006 as a replacement after the departure of guitarist Robert "Throb" Young.
With the Screamadelica album Primal Scream didn’t just reinvent themselves as a band, they reinvented what it meant to be a band. By the end of the 1980s, it looked like Primal Scream were finished. Having formed in Glasgow in 1984, their eponymous and hard-rocking but unspectacular second album had been released in 1989 to poor sales and general indifference. It felt like we were fucked, singer Bobby Gillespie admitted to this writer in 2008. Still, the recording of the song got off to a bad start. We went in to record ‘Come Together’ and it was a bit of a disaster, remembered Gillespie. The drummer turned up with some fucking drug that Keith Moon overdosed on. We all took it and collapsed.
