SUNN O))) co-founders Stephen O’Malley & Greg Anderson originally conceived the WHITE albums to be acoustic but the sessions at Fontanelle’s Magnetic Park studios in Portland Oregon quickly took a far different route toward the psychedelic and the, with trance and drone experiments  . Along with WHITE1, the album brought the concept of SUNN O))) forth from the shadows of the earth unto the broader cosmos spheres, arriving at a truly transcendent note with the pairing of the DECAY tracks featuring Attila. And, the sky cracked open.

Much like its 2003 predecessor (appropriately titled White1), White2 finds itself both temporally and musically situated between the straight-up Earth-worshipping drone of their early records and the more experimental, atmospheric work of their later records. The album contains elements of drone doom, dark ambient, noise music, and avant-garde music, and its three tracks are notably distinct from one another, showing three very different sides of the band’s sound

A companion piece to the previous year's White 1, White 2 once again sees bottom-frequency explorers Sunn O))) stretching their creative limits with three very distinctive, extended pieces of ambient, nearly subsonic non-doom. Indeed, like all Sunn O))) releases before it, White 2 is a pretty specialized affair; offering the sort of bowel-affecting music that would probably stump 99 percent of the planet - unable to grasp collaborators Greg Anderson and Stephen O'Malley's subversive mission of sound in the first place.

Includes the complete White sessions. White 1 is contained on two white records. Side D contains CUT WOOD(ED), a collaboration with Ulver. As stated above, my contempt for this album rests in the fact that there seems to be no variation whatsoever. I can take at least one song like that, for the mood and the atmosphere of it. But when you can construct an entire album using only as many notes as there are songs on the album, it bores me beyond redemption. The misanthropy begins with the first track 'My Wall. Starting with Sunn O)))'s signature drone, one might be able to condone this for a while. As the single note rambles through the Sunn amp, this odd man laments and babbles about such things as (and I'm not kidding) "Johnny/jolly guitar," Steven, Greg and their amplifiers, a woman being a 'cocksucker' who 'went down' on some 'ding-dongs. Higher feedback and what could be construed as wah-wah being used on one of the guitars is heard as the tirade of utter stupidity continues, and luckily ends at around the 11 minute mark.
