Tracklist: Volume 4, Side 1 Bell Street Lightnin' Southern Can Mama Runnin' Me Crazy East St. Louis Blues (Fare You Well) Ain't It Grand To Be A Christian We Got To Meet Death One Day (take 1) We Got To Meet Death One Day (take 2) Don't Let Nobody Turn You Around I Got Religion, I'm So Glad Dying Gambler

Blind Willie McTell, a Piedmont-style fingerpicker from Georgia, came up as a street performer before he was recruited to record for Victor in 1927, and he enjoyed a relatively prolific career before his death in 1959. The tremble in his voice is echoed, often, in White's own vocals- it's a stunning little wobble, an undulating admission of total vulnerability

The recordings presented in this reissue series are the building blocks and DNA of American culture.

This series is an incredible snapshot in time and really paints an amazing picture of the trials and tribulations that a blues artist in that era endured. Interestingly, the first side of my Volume 4 LP has the Volume 4 label for Charley Patton. Oops! This whole series is a must listen for those who remotely dig blues and will appeal to the music historian in all of us.
