The Rolling Stones No. 2 is the second UK studio album by the Rolling Stones released in 1965 following the massive success of 1964's debut The Rolling Stones. It uses the same David Bailey cover shot that had graced the . issued 12 X 5 album two and a half months earlier, but only four songs - "Under the Boardwalk," "Suzie Q," "Grown Up Wrong," and "Time Is on My Side" - overlap on the two albums.

The Rolling Stones No. 2. The Rolling Stones. About The Rolling Stones No. The Rolling Stones No. 2 Q&A. Critic Score. 2 and its North American counterpart 12x5 were essentially 2 sides of the same coin. The songs were both recorded in the same sessions, and released within less than a year of one another. Even the cover arts that were used for both albums were taken in the same photo session. The reason I mention this is because this translates musically as well. The Americans and Brits may have ended up with different products, but at least they heard something similar to the album they were missing out on. The two albums do have a major musical difference however. Where 12x5 had an almost even balance between covers and original tracks, No. 2 is almost entirely covers, with only 3 out of the 12 tracks actually written by members of the group as opposed to artists before the Stones’ time.

The Rolling Stones made it to No. 1 on the . A month later, the album was released in the . bearing a defining subtitle - England’s Newest Hit Makers. They were still a few records away from their first classic. But with this album, the Stones were getting closer. 12 x 5'. The Rolling Stones’ second . release charts a significant period in the group’s evolution. And they were shrewd enough to not tamper with a winning formula. From its title to its mood to its songs, The Rolling Stones No. 2, is every bit a sequel. Still, there’s new confidence in the music – a sense of a young group feeling around the grooves and finding its path among those already laid out. They’re still not the Rolling Stones whose legend took seed by the end of 1965, but they were beginning to get there. The Rolling Stones Now'.
