For his second album, French producer Ludovic Navarre expanded the possibilities of his template for jazzy house by recruiting a sextet of musicians to solo over his earthy productions. The opener "Rose Rouge" is an immediate highlight, as an understated Marlena Shaw vocal sample ("I want you to get together/put your hands together one time"), trance-state piano lines, and a ride-on-the-rhythm drum program frames solos by trumpeter Pascal Ohse and baritone Claudio de Qeiroz.

St Germain is the stage name of Ludovic Navarre (pronounced ), born 1969 in e, a French musician. His style has been described as being a combination of house and nu jazz music. Navarre's album Boulevard was released in July 1995 and has sold over 1 million copies worldwide. His United States debut, Tourist, was released in 2000 and sold 300,000 copies in the USA and 4 million copies worldwide

I was having buzzing problems with C1, but now it plays fine for me after I gave my stylus a very thorough cleaning. My setup is a Numark TT-1+ with an Ortofon cartridge and Ortofon 10 stylus. I use ISO alcohol (91%) on a stylus brush to loosen junk, plus a gentle pass with a magic eraser. I use a 10x loupe to inspect the stylus tip. When the stylus looks perfectly clean, this record plays great.

Do not buy the Parlophone version of Tourist on vinyl, as the previous reviews suggest the track "Sure Thing" is so heavily distorted on the left channel it's completely unlistenable. Considering there are only 9 tracks on the record it's kind of a big deal. I'm surprised nobody pressing this version of the record at Parlophone caught this mistake before shipping, luckily I was able to return my copy...

There was genuinely a period in 2000 where you couldn't walk into a cafe without hearing St. Germain's 'Tourist'. It single-handedly put the cafe / lounge / nu-jazz movement on the map. Whilst it's not an album that's going to blow your mind apart, there's a good chance I'd listen to it more frequently today if it hadn't been so hideously over-exposed at the time of its release.. And I suspect the fact that Ludovic Navarre hasn't released any further albums under this moniker is a solemn nod in that direction.
