Russell Glyn Ballard (31 October 1945) is an English singer, songwriter and musician. Originally coming to prominence as the lead singer and guitarist for the band Argent, Ballard became known by the late 1970s as a songwriter and producer. His compositions "New York Groove", "You Can Do Magic", "Since You Been Gone", "Liar", "Winning", "I Know There's Something Going On", "So You Win Again" and "God Gave Rock and Roll to You" were hits for other artists during the 1970s and 1980s.
Since You Been Gone" is a song popularized by Rainbow but written by former Argent guitarist Russ Ballard and first released on his 1976 album Winning. It was produced by Roger Glover. Prior to Rainbow, the Illinois rock band Head East recorded and released a cover version of the song on their 1978 eponymous album, reaching on the Billboard Hot 100. A year later, Rainbow re-recorded the song and released it as a B-side single. Head East's version of this song was their highest charting single.
