Welcome to the pleasure dome Welcome to the pleasure dome. I will give you diamonds by the shower Love your body even when it's old Do it just as only I can do it And never ever doing what I'm told. What a pushover, yeah There goes a supernova. On its namesake album, the track is an epic – over 13 minutes long – and is sometimes listed as Snatch Of Fury/Welcome To The Pleasuredome. Snatch Of Fury represents the opening line, which is a vocal snippet from FGTH’s cover of Jerry Marsden’s 1964 hit Ferry Cross The Mersey. In 1984, Piers Letcher wrote in Disco 45 that Welcome To The Pleasuredome is. he all singing, all dancing huge production number, Frankie surfing on the crest of a wave.
Based in Liverpool, Frankie Goes to Hollywood formed in 1980, comprising ex-Big in Japan vocalist Holly Johnson, vocalist Paul Rutherford, guitarist Nasher Nash, bassist Mark O'Toole, and drummer Peter Gill. Originally, the group was called Hollycaust, but they changed their name to Frankie Goes to Hollywood - taken from an old headline about Frank Sinatra's acting career - by the end of the year. The band didn't make anything of note until 1982, when they appeared on the British television program The Tube with a rough version of the video for "Relax. Rage Hard," the first single from their second album, peaked at number four in the . during the summer of 1986. It was followed by the release of Liverpool, which reached number five on the British charts. Frankie Goes to Hollywood began their final tour in early 1987; by April, the band had broken up.

Strip away all the hype, controversy, and attendant craziness surrounding Frankie - most of which never reached American shores, though the equally bombastic "Relax" and "Two Tribes" both charted well - and Welcome to the Pleasuredome holds up as an outrageously over-the-top, bizarre, but fun release. Less well known but worthwhile cuts include by-definition-camp "Krisco Kisses" and "The Only Star in Heaven," while . smash "The Power of Love" is a gloriously insincere but still great hyper-ballad with strings from Anne Dudley
