The Passenger" is a song by Iggy Pop and Ricky Gardiner, recorded and released by Iggy Pop on the Lust for Life album in 1977. It was also released as the B-side of the album's only single, "Success". It was released as a single in its own right in March 1998, reaching number 22 in the UK Charts. The lyrics, written by Iggy Pop allegedly aboard Berlin's S-Bahn, have been interpreted as embodying the nomadic spirit of the punk outcast. Guitarist Ricky Gardiner composed the music.

Low is the 11th studio album by English musician David Bowie, released on RCA Records on 14 January 1977. Recorded following Bowie's move to West Berlin after a period of drug addiction and personal instability, Low became the first of three collaborations with musician Brian Eno and producer Tony Visconti, later termed the "Berlin Trilogy"

Taking Changesbowie one step (and one CD) further, The Singles: 1969-1993 embraces many of David Bowie's quirkier sides in the course of collecting all of his biggest hits, whilst picking up such overlooked gems as "Drive-In Saturday" and "Loving the Alien

The 1969 original versions were released on Philips and titled "David Bowie" while the concurrent North American (US and Canada) releases on Mercury had a strap line "Man of Words/Man of Music" at the top of the album. Although Mercury still cataloged it as "David Bowie" it was commonly called by the strap line and when RCA repackaged and re-released it in 1972, they erroneously referred to this advertising title

Until the last, David Bowie, who has died of cancer, was still capable of springing surprises. His latest album, Blackstar, appeared on his 69th birthday on 8 January, and showed that his gift for making dramatic statements as well as challenging, disturbing music had not deserted him. Throughout the 1970s, Bowie was a trailblazer of musical trends and pop fashion. Having been a late-60s mime and cabaret entertainer, he evolved into a singer-songwriter, and a pioneer of glam-rock, then veered into what he called plastic soul, before moving to Berlin to create innovative electronic music.

It’s been said the beginning of Kosmische Musik-the hypnotic, minimalist style of music crudely dubbed Krautrock by the British press in the late ’60s-lies in the wake of World War II. The trance-like atmosphere and sterilized rhythms were the result of a sound designed to mirror the shell shock that fell over Germany after the demise of the Third Reich as well as the Schlager pop music deemed appropriate for public consumption by the government
